Common in all parts, in the lowland as well as the central highland. In dry
places often abundant in the “Elyna-mó” together with Juncus trifidus (seepage60).
Stefánsson, in Fl. ísl., declares it to be a good “beitigras” for sheep and horses, both
during summer and winter.
Life-form: H.
In heaths, dry moors, mó, meadows, fell-field, etc.

Max. height: 40 cm; average: 15 cm.
Geogr. area: Am. : Ellesmere Land to Alaska, southward to British Columbia and
