Recorded by K. & M., loc. cit., without locality, and by Baring-Gould from
Reykjavík. According to Morch, cp. Babington, loc. cit., it is found at Esja, W.
There are no specimens in evidence, and it should be excluded from the Icelandic
Flora.
Scirpus maritimus Linn.
Babington, 1871, p. 335, records it from Esja on Morch’s authority. This record is
evidently due to a mistake.

Common in the lowland ; though only recorded from some few places in N.W.
and E. From the central highland it is recorded from Hveravellir (V.R., 1935).
Laugahraun (S.S., 1931). Smaller lakes are often entirely overgrown with this species,
and in the larger lakes it often forms a broad belt along the shores. It is highly valued
as a hay plant. Often it grows in company with Equisetum fluviatile.
Life-form: G. (Rhizome Geophyte).
In wet, and marshy places, lakes, ditches, lagoons in the irrigated meadows.

Max. height: 88 cm; average : 36 cm.
