Comraon in most parts of the lowland ; also in some places in the central high-
land (Hveravellir, J.Gr., 1934, Arnardalur, Hvannalindir, S.S.).
It may be noted here that ripe capsules are not observed in the herbarium
material. The propagation of S. nodosa in Icel. is evidently to a great extent effected
by means of the numerous axillary shoots which, detached from the mother-plant,
take root and produce new plants.
Life-form : H.
In moist turfy places, fell-field, moist gravelly and sandy soil; often at the hot
springs and on the borders of brooks from these.

Max. length of shoots: 15 cm; average: 7 cm.

On gravelly and clayey soil, around inhabited places, waste places, !n rocks, on
grassy slopes; also in copses; at the hot springs, and on the edge of brooks from
these.
