be excluded from the Icelandic flora.

Icelandic: Línarfi. English : Northern Starwort.
This species has been found with certainty in one place only: at Vatnsf jörður
in N.W. (St.St., 1893). The specimens are up to 45 cm high, flowering and with
young capsules (24.VII.).
Babington, loc. cit., records it as found by Steenstrup at Staðarfell on Fellströnd,
Dalasýsla and in Borgarfjörður, W., but H.J., loc. cit., has looked for it several times
without success in this locality.

Rather common in most parts of the lowland, so far not recorded from the
central highland.
Life-form: H.
In strand-meadows, on the banks of brooks ; on moist, clayey or sandy soil, especially
near the sea.

Geogr. area: Am.: From Labrador to Alaska, southward to Colorado and New
Brunsw.—Eur.: Arctic and northern Europe, southward to northern Germany.—

Babington, loc. cit., declares that he knows nothing of this species. No specimens
are in evidence, and it may be safe to exclude it from the Icelandic flora.
