Common both in the coastal lowland and far up the hills. The records of S.
latifolia (see above) should evidently chiefly be referred to S. maritima, no specimens
of the former are in evidence in H.H. or in H.R.
Life-form: H.
In gravelly and sandy soil, fell-field, dry river-beds, screes.

Max. height: 35 cm; average: 15 cm.
Geogr. area: Eur. : E.S.I.; coasts of northern and westem Eur. southward to
Spain.

Common in all parts, in the lowland as well as the central highland ; to be
found in thc highest hills, and in barren, exposed places.
f. albiflora with light green stem and leaves, and the flowers pure white, is fre-
quently met with in company with the main form.

In heaths on rock-ledges, in moors, in copses, screes, slopes, fell-field.

This species is entered in most of the older lists, beginning with König & Múller,
mt no localities are given. Evidently it is a mistake for Myrioþhyllum sp. It sho»ld
