Common in all parts, except in the central highland, where it has been found
in a few places only: at Hvítárvatn, in several localities: Karlsdráttur, Fróðárdalur
and Hvítárnes (J.Gr., 1934).

In moors and meadows, on the banks of brooks, around springs, in home-fields, in
moist places, in ditches.

Max. height: 50 cm ; average : 22 cm.
Geogr. area: Am.: Newfoundland to S. Carolina, westward to Nebraska.—Eur.:
Fær.; E.S.I., Shetlands; Novaya Zemlya; throughout Europe, southward to Spain.
Caucasus.—Asia: Northern and temperate Asia to Himalaya, Korea, Japan.
