Common throughout most parts of Iceland; rather frequent in the central high-
land ; very variable.
f. glabrata A. Blytt, was found at öxnadalstindur, N., by Krabbe, 1863.
Here and there in gravelly places occurs a dwarfish form, f. pygmaea H. Jónsson,
with a dense rosette, and stems only a few cm high bearing usually only a single
flower.
Life-form: Ch.
On gravelly soil, in moss-carpets on the borders of brooks and rivulets, in moist
localities in the rocks, at springs and near waterfalls.

Max. height: 35 cm ; average : 15 cm.
Geogr. area: Am.: Labrador and Alaska (arctic and subarctic N. Am.).—Greenl.:
W. 60°—72°30'. E. 60°—73°16'.—Eur.: Fær.?; S.; arctic and subarctic Eur.,
central Eur. mts., Jan Mayen, Spitsbergen, Novaya Zemlya.—Asia: Northern Siberia,
Himalaya.

This species was found in the year 1929 in the nursery at Hrafnagil south of
Akureyri, and also in the nursery at Akureyri, and in the neighbourhood of this. It
has most likely been introduced accidentally, but according to Ing. Ósk. it seems
to have become naturalized.

1876). Hvammur in Dalasýsla, W. (H.J., 1899, p. 172).
Occurring as a weed in corn and potato fields and around inhabited places.
Accidentally introduced and not naturalized. Somewhat rare.
