Rosa Afzeliana has only been found in one place, at Vestrihvammur in Kvísker
(Tvísker), öræfi, S. (D 8). It is mentioned from this place by Olafssen & Povelsen,
1772, p. 820, but was by them placed under the genus Berberis. According to Helgi
Jónsson (loc. cit., 1905) it is rather frequent in the low birch scrub in the afore-
mentioned place. The highest individuals measured 1.33 m in height. The specimens
have never been seen in flower.

This species was first discovered in Iceland by Sveinn Pálsen, near the farm
Seljaland, S.—According to Babington, loc. cit., Pálsen sent specimens to Hooker.
Thienemann & Giinther, when visiting the locality in 1820—21, found about
twenty bushes, measuring on an average two feet in height; in fruit on August 27th.
