Common in all parts, in the lowlands as well as the central highland ; thus, for
instance, it is rather common on slopes at Hvítárvatn (J.Gr., 1934).
f. albiflora with white flowers sometimes found in company with the normal plants.
Life-form: H.
In Salix and Betula scrub, on herb-slopes and grassy slopes, in crevices in rocks.

Max. height: 60 cm ; average : 25 cm.
Geogr. area: Am.: (introduced in N. Am.).—Greenl.: W. 61°53'.—Eur.: Fær.;
E.S.I.; northern and central Eur. mts., southward to the Pyrenees, Alps, Appenines.
—Asia: Siberia, Kolguiv Isl., southward to Asia Minor and Armenia, eastward to
the Yenisei.
