Common in E., and found in many places in N.; rather rare in S.; only recorded
from one locality in N.W. and S.W. (D : west of a line between the head of Húna-
fjörður and the mouth of Hvítá (ölfusá). See fig. 128.
In Iceland this species flowers rather late, and does not seem to produce
ripe seeds.
Life-form: H.
On luxuriant rock-ledges, in ravines, etc.

Rather common in all parts, in the lowland as well as in the central highland.
On the gravelly shores or dried-out river beds it sometimes grows abundantly, and
large stretches are purple with its pretty blossoms during flowering time.
In Europe this species only occurs in Iceland, being a typical representative of
the western flora element, see below.
