Common in most parts of the lowland except in S., where it seems to be very
rare (Goðaland northeast of Eyjafjallajökull, Hornafjörður, rare (I.Ó.)). From thc
central parts, too, thcre are but few records: Hvítárvatn, Fróðárdalur, Karlsdráttur
(J.Gr., 1934).
In Salix and Betula scrub this species often occurs in great abundance.

In woods and scrub, on heaths, hill-slopes etc.
Flor. VI—VII; fr. mat. VII—VIII.
Max. height: 28 cm; average: 14 cm.
Geogr. area: Eur.: E.S.I.; central and northern Eur. to 71°10' N. lat. Mountains
of S. Eur., Caucasus.—Asia: Northern Asia from 67° N., eastward to Lake Baikal.
