Common in S. in the tract south of Eyjafjallajökull and Mýrdalsjökull, otherwise
very rare, see fig. 161.
var. eriophylla Dcne. (= var. /3. sphaerostachya Wimmer), with nearly spherical
spikes, leaves and scapes densely woolly; found in a few places: Sauðlauksdalur, W.
(J.S., 1840) ; Vestmannaeyjar, S. (O. Paulsen, 1904, and 1908).
