Tanacetum vulgare L. (Chrysanthemum vulgare (L.) Bernh.).
Baring-Gould, 1863, p. 429.—Babington, 1871, p. 313.
Baring-Gould, loc. cit., mentions this species as growing “Within the fence
round the grassplot before the Governor’s house at Reykjavík”. As Babington, loc.
cit., remarks, it is most probably introduced. A specimen in Ingólfur Davíðsson’s
herbarium was taken at Hámundarstaðir, N., Aug. 1931 (introduced). In 1938 it
was also taken on the Vestmannaeyjar, S., and at Borgarnes, W., by J. Lid
(cultivated ?).

Thienemann & Giinther, loc. cit., record this plant from the country west of
Skjálfandafljót, N., and Vahl, loc. cit., mentions it as certain for Iceland. Baring-
Gould says it is “common in low spots”. Two specimens without locality are kept in
H.H.; one is labelled : “skænket af Halldórsson Friðriksson”,1 the other is signed
“Thorarensen”. In the last few years it has been found on Seltjarnames outside
Reykjavík (I.D.), and in many gardens in Reykjavík, but here it may possibly be
a fairly recent introduction.

excluded from the Icelandic Flora, and so
should Hieracium sibiricum (Syn. Creþis
