MESSAGE FROM THE PREMIER OF
SASKATCHEWAN
J_T IS WITH a feeling of interest and plea-
sure, that I note that citizens of Icelandic origin, will this
coming summer, celebrate the 60th anniversary of settle-
ment in Western Canada of the Icelandic race.
The Icelandic people have established an outstanding
record in Canada. Not only in the districts where they
have settled, have they helped to enrich the social and
community life of our people, but tliey have striven,
persevered and progressed, till today the names of Ice-
landers are written among those who rank liigli in all
important walks of life.
It lias been my privilege and pleasure, both as
a University student in Manitoba, and since coming into
puíblic life in Saskatchewan, to become intimately asso-
ciated with many of the Icelandic race. They have always
impressed me by their keen thirst for knowledge, the
manner in wliicli tliey have so readily adapted themselves
to this cowitry, and the expediency with which they have
become loyal and true citizens.
Their contribution to the citizenship of Canada has
been great indeed.
Witli a sincere appreciation of your great heritage,
on behalf of the Government of Saskatchewan, I tender
best wishes for the success of your celebration tliis
summer.
(Sgd.) JAMES G. GARÐINER,
Premier of Saskatchewan.
