Um höfundinn
Ólafur S. Ástþórsson (f. 1952) lauk BS-prófi í líffræði frá
Háskóla Íslands árið 1975 og Ph.D.-prófi í sjávarlíffræði
frá Aberdeen-háskóla í Skotlandi árið 1980. Ólafur hefur
starfað á Hafrannsóknastofnun síðan 1981 sem sér-
fræðingur við rannsóknir á dýrasvifi (1980–91), sviðs-
stjóri á Sjó- og vistfræðisviði (1990–2000), aðstoðar
forstjóri (2001–2015) og settur forstjóri (2016). Hann
sinnir nú rannsóknum sem meðal annars beinast að
áhrifum veðurfars á lífríki sjávar.
