Hún stundaði framhaldsnám og vann við lyf- lækningar í New Orleans og Boston í Bandaríkjunum 1964–68, stundaði læknisstörf á Ísafirði frá vori 1982 fram í ársbyrjun 1990 og læknisstörf á ýmsum stofnun- um hérlendis fram á haust 2001.
