Fulli títtleikin av teim ymsu húðsjúkunum hjá eini tjóð 25 SUMMARY A census study, comprising 11,000 people on the Faroe Islands (Fig. 1) or one-third of the total Faroese population, was carried out to ascertain the absolute incidence of the various skin diseases. Since the main object of this study was to record psoriasis, this disease is not included in the analysis. The counting includes only cases of true dermatological diseases presenting themselves spontaneously, when the author visited the homes. All 1915 houses with 2341 households were visited. This disclosed 567 persons with skin diseases other than psoriasis, distributed on 663 diagnoses. Eczema showed an incidence of 1.54 p.c., pityriasis simplex and pityroid eczema 1.05 p.c., neurodermatitis 0.44 p.c., Besnier’s prurigo 0.15 p.c., ulcer of the leg 0.15 p.c., and lichen ruber 0.13 p.c. The total incidence of skin diseases was 5.6 p.c. When including also psori- asis, which was traced even down to the very mildest cases, the inci- dence was 8 p.c. BÓKMENTIR 1. Alderson, H. E. &.
