The appearance of the above secondary forms of inf. I of
the preterite-present verbs in Frisian probably is explained by
the extention of the inflection of 3 pl. pres. indic. of weak
and strong verbs to the forms of 1—3 pl. pres. indic. of pre-
terite-present verbs. This partly is already oharacteristic of
Old Frisian8) and of Low German9).
