Hitherto Unused Manuscripts of Hr61fs Saga Kraka.

The study of the manuscripts of Hrolfs saga kraka which appeared
in 1960, in association with a critical edition of the saga1, was
intended to be comprehensive. But the existence of further manu-
scripts is now known, and makes the present supplementary study
necessary.
The first to be described below of these hitherto unused manu-
scripts, Lbs 633, fol., was in private hånds until 1956, and although
a description of it was published in the second supplement to
PE(5 in 1959, Ed. Arnam. had already been published before it
came to my notice. It turns out to be yet another primary manu-
script of the saga; but it does not contribute anything substantial
to our knowledge of the text, and does not lead to revision of
Ed. Arnam. The second to be described, Oslo UB 306, 4to, is a
fragment which was brought to light by Jonas Kristjånsson’s Skrå
um islenzk handrit i Noregi (duplicated, Handritastofnun Islands
1967); it contains only the last half dozen sentences of the saga.
The third, Lbs 2796, 4to, was omitted from Bibi. Arnam. XXIV
by oversight; it is an unusual manuscript, a leamed production
that has alongside its text a substantial body of variants which
also require notice and to which a separate section is given in the
following pages2.

lists a copy of Hrolfs saga kraka which I have not seen; he says that it is a copy
made from Bjomer, written in part by Jakob Grimm in 1813.
