EDITORS' NOTE
The introduction of an English section in this publi-
cation after some two score years may come as a surprise
to some of our subscribers. It is therefore only fitting
that a brief explanation be given.
One of the main reasons for the adoption of an
English section is that in the Western Hemisphere the
Icelandic language does not now appeal to as many
people as it did almost half a century ago. In addition
to this, our advertising manager has reported a growing
reluctance among advertisers to support an exclusively
Icelandic publication. This has led to ever increasing
deficits during the last few years.
At the Annual Convention of the Icelandic National
League, held in Winnipeg last year the possibilities of
decreasing and eventually eliminating the deficits of our
publication and of securing its continuance were care-
fully explored. Finally our publication committee along
with other delegates to the convention almost un-
animously passed a resolution to the effect that the
editors of the “Tímarit” be authorized to include in it
an English section which would primarily be devoted
to Icelandic history, language and literature. It was
felt too, that the original aims of the “Tímarit” could
thus under present circumstances be more adequately
served.
After having considered the above resolution for
some time, the editors decided to carry it out.
At this point, no predictions will be made about the
future of our publication. It is, nevertheless, our hope
that the “Tímarit”, in its slightly altered guise, will be
duly appreciated by its readers.
