S U M M A R Y The Research Station at Eidar in Fljótsdalshérað was established in 1906, and its activities were terminated in 1942. For a long period during its early years, very £ew regular experiments were carried out at the station, while attempts were made to grow various kinds of utility plants for animal as well as human consumption. In the period 1914—1926 work at the station was more or less suspended. The experiments dealt with in this report were chiefly carried out in 1928—1942. Some records exist of the meteorological conditions at Eidar during the active period of the station, especially of the temperature in the summer months, May—Sep- tcmber, the mean temperature for these months in the period 1911—1931 being 7.6° C, I while the mean temperature in 1932—1942 was 9.1° C. Precipitation data are very inconclusive, but the mean precipitation for May— September has probably been 150—200 mm, while the annual average may be tenta- tively given as 500—600 mm (Cf. Tables I and II). The greater part of the experiments are fertilizing experiments. The l'irst of these (Tables III and IV) deal with various mixtures of commercial fertilizers applied to greenfodder — oats mainly for the purpose of discovering the need for fertilizers on the land belonging to the station, where there appears to have been a univrsal defi- ciency of the chemicals of which the fertilizers consist, especially of phosphorus.
