Investigation on the Krafla
high-temperature geothermal
field

A comprehensive description of the
geothermal investigation of the Krafla
high-temperature geothermal field during
the last decade is given in the paper. Almost
all methods commonly used in geothermal
exploration have been used in the inves-
tigation of this geothermal field.
Volcanic activity, associated with a rifting
episode at the plate boundary in Northeast
Iceland, began at an early stage of ex-
ploitation. This magmatic activity has now
continued for five years. As the volcanic
activity has influenced the chemical con-
ditions in the geothermal reservoir, the
