– Heat flow (in megawatt thermal (MWt) above 15°C) from warm and hot springs in low-temperature fields as it was prior to drillings. The most powerful low-temperature fields are located in SW-Iceland on both sides of the volcanic belt, in Reykholtsdalur and in the Southern Lowlands. The colors of the columns indicate sub-surface temperature according to the chalcedony chem- ical geothermometer. The heights of the columns are proportional to flow rate. The numbers by each column show the heat output in MWt. 10. mynd. Frá Ólafi G. Flóvenz og Kristjáni Sæmundssyni.58 – Map of regional geothermal gradient in Iceland. Within the volcanic belts and in Upper-Pleistocene rocks (blank area) permeability is high so the geothermal gradient is much disturbed by ground water flow.
