WORKS IN ENGLISH FROM AND ABOUT THE FAROE ISLANDS
and the corrections/additions concerning
entries from the bibliography and the fírst
supplement were collected in a second sup-
plement which we present on the following
pages.
The present supplement consists of two
parts, a ”new titles” section and an ”addi-
tions/corrections” section, in which new
information referring to entries in the bibli-
ography are given. It comprises 917 new tit-
les and 49 new reviews assigned lo certain
titles, totaling 966 new entries. The overall
number of entries in our ”Works in Eng-
lish from and about the Faroe Islands. An
Annotated Bibliography” has thus reached
4,471 items. Moreover we were able to give
additions and/or corrections to 97 entries
of the bibliography and to 38 entries in the
first supplement in part 2.2. of this supple-
ment.
The present supplement is organized in
the same way as the bibliography. All en-
tries in the first part of the supplement are
listed in a strictly alphabetical order and
numbered continuously. The particular
Scandinavian characters á/Á, æ/Æ, ø/Ø,
ð/Ð were incorporated into the alphabet
and were treated as aa/AA, ae/Ae, oe/Oe
and d/D. Reviews referring to a particular
title are given underneath the title indicated
by >• Reviewed in. These reviews do not
have a number of their own. In some cases
biographical sketches are given; these are
indicated by -* Biographical note. Wher-
ever possible and necessary, annotations are
given in triangular brackets <> underneath
the respective title entry. These annotations
sometimes contain cross-references con-
cerning other titles dealing with the same
subject either in the bibliography or in the
supplement itself. These cross-references
are indicated by cf. bibliography no. ... or
cf. supplement... In the second part of the
supplement the numbers given in front of
each entry refer to the respective numbers
in the bibliography resp. the first supple-
ment to enable the reader to use them as
comprehensively as possible. Additions
and/or corrections are given in italics.
As the entries in the supplement are not
listed by subjects, but in a strictly alpha-
betical order, there are two indices which
enable the reader to make the best possible
use of the entries, a ”subject index” and an
”index of authors, editors, translators, pho-
tographers and illustrators”. The two indi-
ces refer only to the first part of the sup-
plement, not to the additions/corrections
section.
In the preface to our bibliography we ex-
pressed our hope ”... that this bibliography
will be of value for all those who are inter-
ested in the Faroe Islands and that it will
contribute a little to arouse and deepen the
interest in the tiny, but lively nation in the
North Atlantic and in its courageous, love-
able, and hospitable inhabitants.” We hope
that this second supplement will further im-
prove the usefulness of the bibliography.
The present supplement could not have
been written without the help and advice of
many contributors in and outside the Faroe
Islands for which we would like to thank
each and every one of them very much. We
are particularly indebted to Dorete Bloch,
Tórshavn, to Brian Hague, Winchester,
and to the librarians at several nalional and
university libraries and archives, above all
