(pp. 85-106), Johnson deals with the ”Zeno-con-
troversy” between R.H. Major and F.W. Lucas, in
which Major claimed that the legendary island of
Frisland on the Zeno map was identical with the
Faroe Islands. In chapt. XI, ”The Islands of Saint
Brendan” (pp. 175-206), the author looks into the
famous "Navigatio Sancti Brendani Abbatis” and
also deals with the hypothesis put forward by several
historians that St. Brendan visited the Faroe Islands
during his legendary voyage and called them ”The
Island of Sheep”>
