Hans Christopher Miiller, * 1818, 1897. Faroese
politician, government official and natural scientist.
Among other offices Miiller was Sysselmand (slierijf
and local judge) of Southern Streymoy, the first
postmaster-general of the Faroes, member of the
Folketing (from 1858-1864) and of the Landsting
(from 1866-1886). Miiller, who travelled widely
and spoke Faroese and Danish as well as English,
German and French, took an active interest in tlie
natural history and the fauna of liis native islands
and became one of the most important and influen-
tial natural scientists of the Faroes. He published
a number of important essays on the fauna of the
Faroes, especiaily on Faroese ornithology
