Um höfundana
Sveinn P. Jakobsson (f. 1939) lauk mag. scient-prófi í
jarðfræði við Kaupmannahafnarháskóla 1969 og hlaut
dr. scient.-gráðu við sama háskóla 1980. Hann starfaði
á Steindafræðisafninu í Kaupmannahöfn 1965–1969.
Hann hefur starfað hjá Náttúrufræðistofnun Íslands síðan
1969 og var um tíma forstöðumaður stofnunarinnar.
Magnús Tumi Guðmundsson (f. 1961) lauk BS.-prófi í
jarðeðlisfræði frá Háskóla Íslands 1986 og doktorsprófi
frá University College London 1992. Hann starfaði á
Raunvísindastofnun Háskólans við jöklarannsóknir
1991–1994, varð dósent í jarðeðlisfræði 1995 og prófessor
2002. Forseti Jarðvísindadeildar og stjórnarformaður
Jarðvísindastofnunar Háskólans 2008–2012.
