EVIDENCE OF RELATIVE AGE OF
SANDUR DEPOSITS
(1) Morphological evJdence
Four main morphological areas have been identi-
fied (A, B, C and D, Fig. 1) (and Maizels, in prep.)
Area A lies in the west and forms a high (ca. 65-106 m)
sandur deposit, known as the Skógasandur, which
comprises 3 main terrace areas (zones, I, II and
III) truncated by 3 large flood channels (IV, V and VI).
This area has been described by Carswell et al. (1973) as
„hummocky sandur“ and represents the highest
deposits in the study area. The flood channels include
