Um kl. 19:30 var skálað fyrir SBF í bláum kampavínsdrykk og síðan sest til veisluborðs í Rauða salnum þar sem borinn var fram 3ja rétta hátíðarkvöldverður sem rann ljúflega niður með eðalveigum í boði fundarins. Herlegheitunum lauk upp úr kl. 22:00 þegar hópurinn steig glaður og reifur upp í rútu og hélt heim á leið. Þótti öllum takast afbragðsvel til og var undirbúningsnefnd- inni þakkað gott starf. - Húrra fyrir 100 funda SBF! Hafdís Dögg Hafsteinsdóttir Fjölbrautarskóla Vesturlands Bobcatsss Symposium 2004 The 12th annual Bobcatsss symposium took place in Riga, Latvia, the 26th through the 28th of January. The Bobcatsss symposia are organized and managed annually by library and information science (LIS) students selected from two universities, which offer educational and research programs under the umbrella of EUCLID (the Euro- pean Association for Library and Information Education and Research), which is also a supporter of the conferences. This year students from the University College of Borás in Sweden and students from the University of Latvia worked together to realize the event. This year’s topic was “Library and Information in Multicultural Societies”. The opening session on the 26th was held in the main building of the University, Big Aula, and sessions held on the 27th and 28th were held in the Faculty of the Social Sciences building. In keeping with the multicultural theme, over 200 attendees from 21 countries participated in the event. Attendees were welcomed during the opening session by Ivars Lacis, the rector of the University of Latvia, Gunilla Karlsson, the counselor of the Embassy of Sweden to Latvia, Said Irandoust, the rector of the University College of Borás in Sweden, Inta Brikse, professor and dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences of the University of Latvia, Ruud Bruyns, professor at the Institute for Media and Information Manage- ment at Hogeschool van Amsterdam, and Deniss Hanavs, the Deputy director of the Department of Ethnic Minority Affairs of Secretariat of Minister for Special Assign- ments for Society Integration Affairs in Latvia. Keynote sessions were held during the latter half of the day by Sjoerd Koopman, IFLA’s Coordinator of Professional Activities, who explained the organizational structure, workings and multicultural aspects of IFLA. Ole Harbo spoke of “EUCLID, a Multicultural Organisation in a World of Globalisation,” Robert Wallace Vaagan, an associate professor at Oslo University College, and Gry Enger from Vahl Primary School Library in Oslo, presented her highly successful work with minority students, who are in the process of leaming Norwegian and adapting to Norwegian society. And last but not least, Andris Vilks, the director of the National Library of Latvia, presented his paper on the digital divide & multicultural environment. During the conference, a total of 48 sessions were conducted by students and infor- mation professionals alike in which they presented their studies and research. The symposium was divided up into the following areas: society and information, user groups and services, professional issues, legislation and ethics, and business and management. 29. árg. - 1. tbl. 2004 - bls. 42
