by Kenneth Tindall
<”In May 2000 Per Kirkeby, in company with cop-
per-plate printer Michael Schafer, visited the Faroe
Islands at the invitation of The Graphic Workshop
in Tórshavn. During the two weeks of the stay, Per
Kirkeby divided his time between half and whole
days in the mountains, where the observations were
recorded on the sketchpad or were inscribed directly
onto the copper plates which were brought along,
and at The Graphic Workshop where the impres-
sions were utilized in entire series of graphic sheets
which were successively printed by lithographer Jan
Andersson and copperplate printer Michael Schafer.
The impressive result came to seventy-seven graphic
sheets, covering such diversive techniques as cop-
perplate engraving, lithograph, woodcut, and mono-
type. The photographic documentation is for the
most part stills taken from the digital video filnts
which Michael Schafer took on the ramblings in the
mountains and of the various work processes in the
workshop.” Quoted from the introduction by Hans
Jørgen Brøndum>
