There have been seven general meet-
ings during this time. These have
been held in private homes, and I would
like to take this opportunity to thank
Dr. and Mrs. L. A. Sigurdson, Margaret
Petursson, Olga Benson, Harold Johnson,
Mr. and Mrs. Hannes Lindal, Dr. and
Mrs. P. H. T. Thorlakson and Mr. and
Mrs. A. S. Bardal, for their hospitality
which has in no small way added to
the success of all our meetings. The
attendance has been anywhere from 30
to 80. And all meetings have been both
educational and entertaining. Our guest
speakers and artists have been as fol-
lows: Mr. W. J. Lindal, K.C., G. S. Thor-
valdson, Mr. T. A. Arnason, Prof. Skuli
Johnson, Mr. Palmi Palmason, Prof.
Watson Kirkconnell, and Miss Agnes
Sigurdson. It has been a pleasure and
a privilege to have these people with
us.
As is our custom on Iceland’s Inde-
pendence Day, December lst, a Banquet
and Dance was held at the Marlborough
Hotel. Our guest speaker was Mrs.
Laura Goodman Salverson, whose work
in the literary field is so widely ac-
claimed that no further mention need
be made here.
Our contribution to the work of the
Icelandic National League was in the
form of a dance with the object of rais-
ing funds for the Leif Eiriksson Statue.
The amount contributed has already
been read in the Financial Report.
In addition to this numerous sport
events and outings have been arranged,
all of which were enjoyed by the mem-
bers and their friends.
The members of the Society now
number about 76, and at every meeting
new members are joining the organiza-
tion on their own accord, as so far we
have not had any membership drives.
One very important matter has
claimed the attention of the Society
that is a meeting-place of our own,
for our meetings and other Club ac-
tivities, we therefore appointed a Com-
mittee to look into the matter of a
Club House. We hope to be able to de-
velop this into a Community Centre for
the Icelanders in this City.
