og inndráttur. Af 373 tungurótarskjaldkirtl-
um, sem greint hafði verið frá fram til
1969, var 21 með krabbamein3 og í engu til-
felli var um barn að ræða.
Vegna ofangreindra ástæðna var barnið,
sem hér var sagt frá meðhöndlað, með
skjaldkirtilsvaka, en hinn fullorðni með
skurðaðgerð.

SUMMARY
A 38 year old white female was diagnosed by
I 131 as having a lingual thyroid, this is the
first ease diagnosed in Iceland. Because of the
firmness and central umbilication of the gland,
surgery wais advised and the gland was removed
by trans oral resection. The specimen weighed
5.88 gm and measured 3x2.2 cm, showed thyroid
tissue with degenerative changes, fibrosis and
calcification. Post-operative recovery was un-
eventful and the patient was placed on
thyroxine 2 mcg maintenance dose.
