unda. Þau kunna að hafa haft bein áhrif á kristna hugsuði á borð við Gregoríos
frá Nyssa og Basíl og jafnvel Ágústínus. Ekki náði þó hugmynd Plótinosar sem
leggur að jöfnu slæmleika og efni hylli á miðöldum eða síðar. Ein ástæða þess eru
þeir duttlungar sögunnar sem leiddu til þess að fals-Díónýsíos (5.–6. öld e.Kr.) –
þessi höfundur er svo kallaður, því hann kvaðst vera Díónýsíos, fylgismaður Páls
postula – varð kennivald og hafði gríðarmikil áhrif á miðöldum. Viðhorf hans til
slæmleikans endurspegla afstöðu Próklosar fremur en Plótinosar.
