Tileinkun tungumáls gerist með því að nota tungumálið en margir innflytjendur hafa fá tækifæri til að nota málið og verða framfarir því mjög hægar eða alls engar. Samþætting tungumálanáms og starfsþjálfunar veitir möguleika á að efla fólk bæði persónu- lega, hvað varðar þátttöku í íslensku samfélagi, og að efla það á vinnumarkaði með því að gefa því tækifæri til að fá fjölbreytt störf. Það er allra hagur að slíkt kerfi fái að þróast og blómstra á Íslandi. U M H Ö F U N d A N A Sólborg Jónsdóttir er deildarstjóri Tungumála- og fjöl- menningardeildar hjá Mími-símenntun. Hún hefur starfað lengi að málefnum sem tengjast íslenskukennslu fyrir útlend- inga og námsefnisgerð. Aleksandra Chlipała, hefur lokið MA-gráðu í sálfræði (sér- hæfing: menningarsálfræði, skipulagssálfræði og íþróttasál- fræði). Hún er verkefnastjóri í fjölmenningu og frístundaráð- gjafi í frístundamiðstöðinni Kampi. Hún vinnur einnig með Mími-símenntun, Vinnumálastofnun og fleiri aðilum við ólík fjölmenningarleg rannsóknarverkefni og viðburði (e. work- shops). Aleksandra er félagi í fjölmenningaráði Reykjavíkur- borgar og félaginu ProjektPolska.is. A b S R A C T In the fall of 2013 Mímir Continuing Education conducted an online survey on the vocational education of Polish job appli- cants in Iceland. The project was funded by the Ministry of Education, Science and Culture through the “Learning is the Way to Work” programme. The Directorate of Labour was a partner in this project and Aleksandra Chlipała was in charge of conducting the survey and its processing in cooperation with Sólborg Jónsdóttir. The objective of the survey was to map the vocational education of Polish job applicants and their interest in seek- ing further vocational education in Iceland. The findings can be used to develop vocational education programmes and validation of real competencies suitable for the target group. The largest immigrant group in Iceland is Polish. A vast vari- ety of vocational education is offered in Poland and only a part of this to be found in Iceland. Sometimes it has proven difficult for Polish people to have their vocational education and work experience validated in Iceland. By mapping and presenting the education of this group it is hoped that it will become better known and therefore easier to compare it to the Icelandic educational system and labour market. Hope- fully this will make it easier for immigrants to acquire varied vocational education and strengthen validation of real com- petencies.
