Summary
A systematic diagnostic approach used for patients with vertigo, tinnitus or hearing
loss is described. The system has been in development at Borgarspítalinn ENT-
department since 1975.
Of 63 patients that were examined 84% were between 20 and 60 years of age.
The most common disease was "cervical vertigo" and in only four patients the
criteria of psychogenic vertigo were met. A definite etiologic diagnosis was made
in 62,4% of cases but of the remainder location of the lesion was possible in all
but one patient. The results compare well with the experience of others using the
same diagnostic methods.
