Deaths from tuberculosis may be classified as follows (last year’s
figures in round brackets): Pulmonary tuberculosis 21 (25), universal
tuberculosis 3 (1), tuberculosis of bones and joints 0 (2), meningeal
tuberculosis 3 (3), abdominal tuberculosis 1 (2), tuberculosis of the
urinary and generative organs 1 (3).
During the last two decades death from tuberculosis in Iceland has
been almost steadily decreasing, yet, with a relative stand-still during
the war, and the last three years the fall of the tuberculosis death rate
is truly adventurous. In 1930 232 died í'rom tuberculosis in Iceland
(2.2 per 1000 of the population), 1939: 94 (0.8 per 1000), 1945: 88
(0.7 per 1000), 1947: 71 (0.5 per 1000), 1948: 47 (0.3 per 1000), 1949:
36 (0.3 per 1000), 1950: 29 (0.2 per 1000).
7. Leprosy. The number of patients has been almost constantly
decreasing in previous years (cf. tables V—VI).
