LOKAORÐ
Eins og fram hefur komið getur iktsýki verið
mjög misjafnlega alvarlegur sjúkdómur. Sjúklingar
með hækkun á IgA RF snemma á sjúkdómsferlin-
um fá að jafnaði slæman sjúkdóm og meiri lið-
skemmdir en þeir sem ekki hafa hækkun á þessum
gigtarþætti. Enn á þó eftir að gera framsýnar sam-
anburðarrannsóknir til að kanna hvort hægt er að
bæta horfur IgA RF jákvæðra sjúklinga með sterk-
ari lyfjameðferð í upphafi sjúkdóms.
Rannsóknir hafa einnig sýnt að eitilfrumusam-
setning sjúklinga með slæma iktsýki og hækkun á
IgA RF er önnur en þeirra sem eru IgA RF nei-
kvæðir. Þetta getur bent til þess að meingerð IgA
RF-jákvæðrar iktsýki sé önnur en IgA RF neikvæða
sjúkdómsins. Þannig má leiða líkur að því að ikt-
sýki sé ekki einn sjúkdómur, heldur að minnsta
kosti tveir eða þrír sjúkdómar. Frekari rannsókna
er þörf til að kanna þá tilgátu.
