slightly greater the difference amounts to approximately
15% (compare the table on page 36).
Considering all these details it is evident that Ægir has
hereditary dairy potentialities which indicate his value for
improvement in breed despite the fact that his physical
features are far from desirable. Völlur, however, has so poor
hereditary dairy qualities that his effects on the cattle stock
are unfavourable, though he seems to have good attributes
in regard to milkfat and his physical features woulcl have
to be called rather fair.
Since the bulls Ægir and Völlur were selected for progeny
tests in 1954, two bulls have been picked annually for the
same purpose.
At present 15 daughters, sired by the bull ,,Þeli“ and 17
daughters, sired by the bull „Fylkir“, are under tests. But 36
heifers, sired by the bulls „Týr“ and „Iri“ are being reared,
and 39 heifercalves, sired by the bulls „Mýri“ and „Galti“.
Final statistics arrived at through the tests are fairly
significant as to the superiority af Ægir’s daughters (compare
page 38).
