An answer to the preceding note by Einar G. Pétursson. It is pointed out that the initials A.J.
and the year seem to be written with another pen and the dedication is written in the spirit of
the donor himself, Bishop Guðbrandur. As Einar G. Pétursson considers it likely that the
dedication is in Arngrímur Jónsson’s handwriting without quoting a text for comparison, an
autograph dedication written by Arngrímur is printed here.

Accessions. At the end of the year the number of printed books in the National Library was,
according to the accessions catalouge, 379, 576 volumes. A great number of books were given to
the library or acquired through exchange (cf. a list on pp. 84—86).
Department of Manuscripts. The total number of catalogued manuscripts was at the end of the
year 13,831. Many manuscripts were presented to the National Library during the year, and
those new accessions are briefly mentioned on pp. 86-88. Several manuscripts were also
bought.
National Department. On January 15, Mr Einar G. Pétursson was appointed head of
department. The 1974—78 cumulative volume of the Icelandic National Bibliography was
published in the autumn.
