Old shells were found by Reykjadalsá, near Stóri Kroppur,
15 — 20 m. above sea-level (4 species, p. 26). The terraces
here reached a height of 10 — 25 m. above sea-level.
e) Shell-strata and marinc terraces at Flókadalsá, (pp. 26 — 28).
Not far from the mouth of the river are clay terraces
20 — 30 m. above sea-Ievel, the height of which increases
regularly up to 40 — 50 m. above sea-level. Shells were
four.d in the clay strata 15 — 20 m. above sea-Ievel (species
enumerated on p. 27).
At the entrance of Flókadalur (valley), by Varmilækur,
there are marine terraces covered with sea-worn gravel 70 —
75 m. above sea level. On the projecting mountain Varma-
lækjarmúli there is a surf-formed ledge in the solid rock
(rock-terrace) 80-85 m. above sea-level.
f) Marine deposits and shells by the Grimsá (river), (pp. 28 - 30).
Marine terraces with laminated clay are to be found
along the river up to about 40 m. above sea-level. At the
farm Ringnes 9 species of fossil shells were found in the
clay 4 — 6 m. above sea-level (p. 28).
At the entrance of Lundarreykjadalur are extensive marine
terraces 75 — 90 m. above sea-level divided from the lower
terraces by steep slopes or cliffs.
g) Old marine deposits in Skorradalur (vallcy) and Andakýll,
(pp. 30 — 34).
On this lowlying area easily distinguishable marine form-
ations are to be seen in many places, and also raised
terraces with clay strata and gravel ridges, up to 40 or
50 m. above sea-level. Higher up the marine terraces
are to be found in a few places 65 — 75 m. above sea-
level; for instance at the entrance of Skorradalur. The
sea probably penetrated into the Skorradalur after the
Glacial Age. The author discovered old shells in two
places by Grjóteyri, 10 — 20 m. above sea-level (species
enumerated on pp. 32 — 33). There are tivo clay strata in
