Hann er prófessor í steingervingafræði við Háskóla íslands og hefur einkum fengist við rannsóknir á tertíerflóm íslands og sælin- dýrafánum frá síðari hluta tertíers, ísöld og nútíma á Islandi og Grænlandi. Ólöf E. Leifsdóttir (f. 1969) lauk BS-prófi í jarðfræði frá Háskóla íslands 1994 og MS-prófi frá sama skóla 1999. BS- ritgerð hennar fjallaði um nákuðungslög á Stokkseyri, en MS-ritgerðin fjallar um sjávarset og fánur frá miðbiki ísaldar á norðanverðu Snæfellsnesi. 78
