Byggingarhefðir á íslandi eru svipaðar milli landshluta. Því má ætla að raunhæft sé að
nota tjónaföllin til að meta fjárhagslegt tjón fyrir allar lágreistar byggingar er flokkast
undir þær byggingargerðirnar, sem þau rniðast við. Rétt er að taka fram að föllin lýsa eða
spá fyrir tjóni sem verður vegna þess að bygging hristist og skekur í jarðskjálfta en taka
ekki á þeim tilvikum, þegar undirstöður missíga eða jarðvegur ysjast. 12008 jarðskjálftanum
var tjón rakið til grundunar í minna en 5% tilvika.
