H strap mount of Oriental type found in Iceland. Tlie Oriental belts of the Vik-
ing period and tlieir Eurasian context.
Á publication of a strap mount of bronze with niello decoration found at Lund-
Ur> Fljótshverfi, Vestur-Skaftafellssýsla, Iceland. The mount dates from the late
Viking Age, and belongs to a group of belt fittings of Oriental type, which is well
known in Sweden and further to the east, but has been found only in one or two
mstances west of Sweden. The article gives a summary discussion of the Orien-
tal belts and their origin and distribution in Asia and Europe. A Swedish ver-
sion of the article with full references and with an English summary has been
