A B S T R A C T
Faith and Climate Change
Christian faith has had a decisive effect on the Western ideological understanding
of man, world and nature. This can be read out of recent Christian religious decl-
arations put forward on the eve of COP21 in Paris 2015. Echoing earlier religious
discourse on nature and the environment these declarations focus essentially on
the revision of traditional view of nature as well as understanding of human nat-
ure. Man, created in the image of God, is not the crown of creation, in the sense
that he alone has intrinsic value. Nature is part of God's creation, it is an equal to
man as well as his neighbor and should be handled with care and respect, as well as
consideration for future generations. Christian anthropocentrism needs to convert
into bio-centrism as well as theo-centered environmental Christian ethics. Ethics of
humility, modesty and gratitude are a common ethical message of all the Christian
statements.
