Guidelines for contributors
The Icelandic Journal of Education is published twice a year. Articles to be published
in the spring issue must be submitted electronically to the editor by October 1 and for
the autumn issue by May 1. However, it is preferred if articles are submitted earlier,
or as soon as they are ready.
The main criteria for the editorial board’s decision on publication are as follows:
• Papers should be original.
• Papers should be scholarly or based on research.
• Papers should concern pedagogy or education.
• Papers fitting the theme of an issue, when there is one, may be given priority.
Overseas scholars may submit papers in English.
The first author of the paper will be the editor’s contact person and will be responsible
for the article. All authors’ names will be published in the order they appear in the
manuscript.
If a paper is accepted by the editorial board as fulfilling theoretical and presentational
standards it will be sent to at least two scholars for review.
A paper accepted with a reservation or reservations for certain changes according
to a reviewer’s opinion will be returned to the author with the comments of the
reviewers and the editorial board. The author may then resubmit the article with an
account of his/her changes.
Publication of an article in the journal includes permission to publish in both the
print and electronic editions.
Presentation of the article
The paper should conform to the APA system. This applies for references in text,
length of citations, list of references, headings, tables and figures. Footnotes will not
be published, but endnotes will be published if needed. Guidelines can be found in
the latest edition of Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association.
An Icelandic author should be cited by both first and last name. In the list of
references, Icelandic names should be listed in alphabetical order by first name.
Some important notes on the presentation of manuscripts:
• A manuscript should be 15–25 pages.
• The font should be Times New Romans, 12 pt and the spacing 1.5.
• One space follows a full stop/period.
• The name of the author and the title of the article must appear on the flysheet.
• After the flysheet an abstract of 100–150 words should be supplied.
