This is ascribed to “Haralz sogu”, but is not found in any of the surviving
sagas of Haraldr.
LI p. 11, s. v. An: The same proverb is here ascribed to “Haralldur Gullkamb-
ur”. This cognomen is several times found attrihuted to Haraldr Harðráði
in the 17th century, see below p. 123 and cf. L1 p. 170, s. v. Lockr, where he is
called “Haraldus Auricomus”.
SLR p. 36, s. v. Fnikur: Þeir sau vatzfall renna med fulum fnijk ... Inde Pa-
ræmia: Ad fara burt erkinn [sic] med fnikum og fulum.

Cf. Nikolaus saga II (Heilagra manna spgur (1877) II, 118:16—18): mik
dreymdi eina nott, at ek sæi svart deynanda vatnfall rennanda med fulum
fnyk. — The sentence does not occur in any of the surviving sagas of Sigurðr
Jórsalafari. It is not likely that Guðmundur used Nikolaus Saga II, but it is
a characteristic of this saga to borrow phrases and sentences for embellish-
ment from other sagas, so the sentence may have becn originally part of some
other saga which has since been lost.

corrected from the transcript of Guðmundur’s manuscript (now lost) made by
