ANTHONY FAULKES
kynferdis. — 568 has the same, except that it has sakir instead of sokum. M
reads: “En ek em þó ekki féríkr, en þó mun ek mannvandr sakar kynferðis.”
106: Ras: So mun þier litast, þa ... 568 has þá, but M has þegar.
Króka-Refs Saga: 30
59 Illbyte: Hier munu kominn sa arme Refur sem Grænlendigum hefur giort
mikid Illdhyte. — 568 has sá armi Re/r and illl býti, but A has sá sami Rejr
and illbýli.
130 Varnadur: Hefur þu þan varnad flutt i Land vort sem oss er nu um hrijd
ej aud fengin saker fiandmanna vora. — 568 has varnað and “um hríð eigi
auðfengin sakir fjandmanna várra,” but A has varning and “ekki um hríð
mjök auðfcngr sakir várra fjandmanna.”
Orms Þáltr Stórólfssonar :40
59 Idiumadur: Storolfur var Idiumadur mikill og Ryslgiarn. — 568 has risl-
giarn, but F has verks ígjarn.
28 Eiker: Ilann liet hey saman færa. — 568 has “liet hey saman fara,” but F
has “lét færa hey saman.”
57 ad huorla: Gridkur ætludu ad huorla heyed ... — 568 agrees with this, but
F reads: “ætluðu at hvirla heyit.”
19 Rlidskapur: Þcir elltu Jafnan grátt silfur ... — 568 agrees with this, hut F
has löngum for jafnan.
28 Einhœjur: ... sa er einhæfur liefur verit. — 568 lias einhœjr both here and
in ch. 3, while F has the more usual einhamr in both places.
85 Miallar jarn: For this word F has málajárn. 568 is defective here, hut the
following letters can be distinguished: mial ... jarn.
30 Erjide: ... af þier mikid erfidc fá ... — So 568, but F has “af þér nökkut
erfitt fá.”
18 Blodrefill: ... riste blodrefill ... — So 568, but F has the more correct
reist blóðörn. Magnús Ólafsson gives blóðrefill as a synonym for blóðörn,
mislead by this reading in his MS, and Björn Halldórsson, in his dictionary,
gives the word hoth in this sense and in the more usual meaning; he evident-
ly took the word from SLR.
Hávarðar Saga. There are only two quotations from this saga, and only one
has any significant variant reading:
16 Biarnylur: ... allduri var þad frost eda Kulde ad oll ti. e. Óláfrl hefdi fleiri
