This isperhaps an inaccurately remembered version of Landnámabók (1900),
96:9—10: Hialpi mer sva Freyr ok Niordr ok hinn almatki os. — This is
quoted correctly by Worm in Monumenta Danica 14. Similar formulas occur
in Þórðar saga hreðu 232:1—2, and at the beginning of Þorsteins Þáttr Uxa-
fóts, but nowhere seems to have helgi for almáttki.

Apart from these more striking cases, there are many of the en-
tries in SLR, which are not found in DG 55, which reappear in nearly
the same form in LI. Five more of the quotations from Völuspá and
Hávamál,for instance, are common to both (see pp. 104—105 below),
and there are also correspondences between the two dictionaries in
some references to Snorra Edda (see pp. 102—103). Two references
to Lawbooks, both paraphrases rather than quotations, are found in
both (see pp. 107 and 109). There are similarities in some references
to Njáls Saga (see pp. 97—98), and three of the proverbs in SLR
which are not in DG 55 are also found in LI (see pp. 123,124, 125).
Finally, there are similarities in many other entries which do not con-
tain quotations; e. g. SLRp. 50, the entries under Hæll, Hœldreiginn,
Hœll (2), correspond closely to the entry in LI p. 102, s. v. Hœll;
SLR p. 10, s. v. Au, Auvirdur, Aukuise, corresponds to LI p. 19, s. v.
Au, Auminge. None of these are in DG 55.
It might be assumed that the explanation of some of these simila-
rities was simply that GuSmundur borrowed material from SLR for
his own dictionary. But the fact that some of the above similarities
cannot be explained in this way, and also that correspondences are
