is from ÓTM II 23.
4 Afsprenge: Nial: Hann er vinar
vors afsprengis. —• This does not
occur in Njáls Saga, nor have I
found it elsewhere. But cf. Karla-
magnus saga (1860), 318:13:
“Allir vér vitum, at þú vart aldri
vinr várs afsprings.”
5 Alóg. The quotation under this
word is from Orkneyinga saga
(1913—16), 121.

Kongs Þatt. — These words do
not appear to occur in any of the
versions of Ileiðreks Saga. The
saga was known to Brynjólfur
Sveinsson (cf. quotations from it
in Conjectanea, from the Hauks-
bók version. The quotation in
Worm’s Additamenta ad Monu-
menta Danica (1650) is taken
from Conjectanea), and also to
Guðmundur Andrésson, who quo-
tes one of the riddles (p. 237, s. v.
Teitr) from the R-version (GkS
2845 4to). The phrase ánauSga
menn is found in other sagas, e. g.
Eyrbyggja 64 and DG 8 II (Óláfs
Saga Ilelga). The ascription in
SLR may be due to faulty me-
mory.
*6 Antur: Mos creber. I Fornum
Sógum: Hann hafdi þan antur ad
hann gieck i elldaskala. —• This
word is not recorded in any of the
dictionaries of Old Icelandic, but
it occurs in the later language
(cf. Björn Halldórsson and Blön-
dal). It is found, e. g., in AM 738
4to, 32v. This is a miscellany from
about 1680. Guðmundur Andrés-
son uses the word in his Persius
Rímur III 7:
Spilltum illt er antúr af
eitruð rót er þess upphaf.
Ile also includes the word in LI
p. 12: “andtyr / vel andtur / dis-
opia [MS: dusópíal.” He is pro-
bably responsible for the entry in
SLR, and the vagueness of the
reference implies that he invented
the quotation.
