Geheimwissenschaft) bendir til – sem forgöngu- maður mannspekinnar, Rudolf Steiner notaði um þau fræði sín sem lutu að því sem blasti ekki bókstaflega við sjónum – snerist málið ekki um andóf gegn vísindum almennt heldur aðra sýn, annars konar vísindi.16 Það er því tímanna tákn að í stóra ævisögulega handritinu kveðst Þórbergur hafa pantað „þrjú undirstöðurit“ nítjándu aldar, The Secret Doctrine (Leyndu kenninguna, 1888) eftir annan stofnanda guðspekihreyfingarinnar, H.P. Blavatskíj, Human Personality (Persónuleika mannsins, 1903) eftir „Fredrik Meyer“, þ.e. enska sálfræðinginn Frederic W.H.
